They've done all that work to try and make him the new face of the franchise and now he's gone. I can see the reasoning, though: two new pitching prospects and opening a spot for McCutcheon. Hopefully it works out and we get some stars as they're budding.

Yeah... I just went on to the Buccos site and saw this... JAWDROPPING... it is realllllllly early for this type of trade. Ah well... I get to go see my Royals on June 27th and I think they have a better chance of winning! Don't get me wrong... the Bucs are my national league team... now there is a putrid WS. Royals vs. Bucs! I hope something good happens out of this.

that is true that we are getting both a right and left handed pitcher (which we need good pitchers so then the bullpen is not crap) and another center fielder out of this and we have Andrew (McCutheon) coming up....but still you hate to see a great player like Nate go. Maybe they traded him because he is a Red Wings fan

according to the Post-Gazette, the Pirates were not looking to shop McLouth but the Braves came to them looking for an outfielder and gave the Bucs an offer they couldn't refuse.
Neal Huntington said "This may be the toughest decision we have made in my time with the organization. Nate is a quality player and person but, as we have said several times, tough decisions will need to be made as we build and sustain a championship-caliber organization. Nate has worked as hard as any player to become a starting major league Player, proving wrong anyone who may have doubted him. When we signed Nate to a long-term contract, we did so with the intent on having him remain part of our core of homegrown talent. But the quality and quantity of talent we are receiving in this trade moves us closer to our goal of building that sustainable championship-caliber club and compelled us to move a very good player and an outstanding young man."
