JOHNSTOWN, Pa.- The Johnstown Chiefs and Planet Ice, in partnership with their management company Arena United, Inc., are pleased to announce the launch of “Get in the Game”, an entry level ice hockey program for first time hockey players.
Get in the Game is an eight-week instructional hockey skills and skating course that provides first time players with an entire hockey equipment kit for $200.00. The program is supported by Bauer, designed by Arena United, Inc. in conjunction with Planet Ice and the Johnstown Chiefs to provide new participants to other area hockey organizations (i.e. Jets, Pitt-Johnstown Icecats, area high school hockey teams, etc.).
“The number one barrier to entry for hockey participation is price, and we are fortunate to have the support from Bauer to help make this first time experience affordable.” Says Scott Wertz, Director of Programming for Arena United, Inc.
Additional grass roots programming and strategies for hockey participation, implemented by Arena United, Inc., through Cambria County ice rinks include:
• Chiefs Camps and Clinics
• Chiefs Taste of the Game
• Chiefs Get in the Game
• Chiefs Presidents Day 32 Team Tournament
• The Pyramid of Hockey Progression
“These programs bring tremendous benefit to the community by developing Chiefs fans, promoting healthier lifestyle in young people, and increasing ice sports participation for the Cambria County War Memorial, North Central Recreation Center and Planet Ice. The involvement and support of the Chiefs in these programming strategies is an opportunity for them to give back to a community that has greatly supported them,” said President of Arena United Scott Branovan.
Last season, Arena United, Inc. launched Taste of the Game, a comprehensive proprietary hockey education program offered to community schools. The program, with the Chiefs playing a significant role, was a success with several elementary schools participating. Arena United, Inc. will again offer Taste of the Game for the ’09-10 season to area schools through the Cambria County ice rinks.
Be a part of Chiefstown! The 2009-10 season starts at home on October 17 against Cincinnati. Chiefs season ticket packages are on sale right now. Don’t miss out on all the great benefits of being a Chiefs season ticket holder. There are even special discounts for children, students, military veterans, and seniors. You can speak to a season ticket representative today by calling the Chiefs at 814-539-1799, or by visiting the team’s office during business hours 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
