Though conventional wisdom is that teams try to avoid redundancy, the Red Sox are actually trying to create some down the stretch to cover themselves in terms of depth and potential injuries. And that was the thinking behind the deal that brought left-handed-hitting first baseman Adam LaRoche to the Red Sox on Wednesday.
To get LaRoche, Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein dealt two prospects -- shortstop Argenis Diaz and right-hander Hunter Strickland -- to the Pirates.
A starter for the Pirates, LaRoche, who is hitting .247 with 12 homers and 40 RBIs, will come off the bench in Boston. But he figures to get plenty of chances to play for Red Sox manager Terry Francona, who is adept at utilizing his entire bench.
"We've been in the market for a player who could do some damage against right-handed pitching and help our club's depth at the corner infield," said Theo Epstein. "We've checked in on a number of players that fit that category and found that, by a large, large margin, the Pirates had the most reasonable acquisition cost. This was a chance to get, at a very reasonable acquisition cost, a player that we think will help our club against right-handed pitching and add to our depth and leave us in a position to continue to look for more impact before the end of the trading deadline."

Trading Adam is not that upsetting to me honestly. Yes, he was is an excellent 1st baseman, but his hitting is too up and down.
Never the less, Good Luck to Adam in Boston...I hope everything goes well.

Figures... I start appreciating him... and the Pirates trade him off. I really can't stand the management of this team.
Refer to my post in Misc named...There was a farmer who had a dog...

The management team that has been in place for the last 2 years is the best since the Syd Thrift era IMO. Bob Nutting is starting to loosen the purse strings a little but they still have a ways to go in order to keep up with the middle of MLB. As for the whole LaRoche trade at least they got something for him and we really didn't lose a lot when we traded Gonzalez for him. IMO this opens up a path for Pearce to get to the majors and show what he can do as well as possibly moving Walker over to 1st from 3rd full-time.
As for management of this team actually saw the best shirt in Johnstown in a long time at Arby's last week. A young girl had an Orioles jersey t-shirt of #15 Matt Weiters on. That was a funny yet bitter pill to swallow as he should of been drafted by Littlefield over Moskos but according to draft theory at the time was unsignable as he is represented by Scott Boras(also the agent of Pedro Alvarez).

Impressive.
It's bad when you crave mediocrity. Another 20+ game back season in the making.
You can't contend if you can't compete in your own division. The Pirates are a terrible organization. The End.
