I remember hearing that Mike Crupi was killed in a car accident. I was a kid then, to me the Jets were larger than life and totally invincible. It just didn't seem possible. I think his photo still hangs in the concourse someplace down around the pro shop, or slapshot lounge, or whatever that thing is........... Also, Blake Ball. Does anybody remember him? Solid, tough defenseman. His daughter was in my class in school one year, she was pretty cute!

Crupi's memorial used to hang outside the proshop, along with a lot of other old pictures. We also used to have championship banners hanging from the rafters. Last I heard, they don't even know where those are anymore. Very little chance of getting the old pictures put back up, either, at least under current management.
I can't understand why they wouldn't want to decorate the halls with old photos. That'd be the first thing I'd do, personally.

Those photos and banners should hang forever.
I'm for starting an investigation to find out where they are, and get them put back up!!!!

I remember Artus Irbe. Whenever he played his first game for us the arena was actually packed!
I also remember when the roof (I think thats what it was) collapsed in and they had boards up at the top of my section and many others....that was also when Irbe was with us (how about that?)
And you cannot forget about the Iron Dog and the Iron Puppy. The puppy was my favorite because he was so cute (wow that was very girly of me....that rarely happens). I saw we bring him back!

Jim Mair.
Played for the Jets, 1966 to 1969. One of the fiercest checkers that ever played here, bar none. I think the rules on boarding were a little more relaxed back then, come to think all the rules probably were. Jimmy Mair used to just plaster guys into the boards, you could hear the thud the whole way down Main street!! Led the Jets in penalties too. Good defenseman, went on to play in the AHL and for the Flyers, Islanders and Canucks in the NHL.

Speaking of checks, I remember one around the turn-of-the-century in front of Section 2. Since our arena was and still is hopelessly out-of-date, we still weren't using shatter-glass (furthermore, this pane was faded to yellow . . . eww).
Well, someone got checked (Andrew Dale?) hard into the glass, and it split in half width-wise! Not shatter, no fragments, even. Just a crooked cut right across the middle. The scary part was that the break came right about at the player's neck height. That could have been a very bad situation.
(And like always, it took 20 minutes to repair the pane)
The other big hit I remember vividly is Kevin Kellett against Toledo. That's the only reason I remember Kevin Kellett, and it's because Doug Heck posted the video clip on the website, so I got to watch it over and over and over. It was extra sweet being against Toledo.

Awesome finds, smalltown!
Firebirds = awesome logo Beauce Jaros = awesome name
The only better name is the Binghamton Broome Dusters. Probably my most favorite team name ever. Loved the logo dude, too.

Ah, the night the Beauce Jaros came to town. It was well promoted in the local media that the Jaros had the baddest of the bad boys, Gilles Bilodeau. The game was well attended, and people couldn't wait for Mr. Bilodeau to meet up with Mr. Hanson. Well, the fur flew near center ice, with Dave Hanson the clear cut winner. I was there, those were the days......

I got the the game from 1990 againist Richmond where they retired Don Hall and Dick Robgerge's numbers and the banners were hanging from the WM rafters. They were pretty nice looking and they should of kept them up. How do you lose banners like that? That's pretty dumb to lost something significant like that.

I remember . . . . . . back when the Matts did a post-game call-in show, some guy (Doug?) called in while driving home. About a minute into the call, we hear him scream and the call cuts off. Still don't know what happened, but I hope he was all right! . . . my first Chiefs' jersey. Probably around 1991. It's a bit small now, but I've still got it! . . . playing defense in front of Toby O'Brien . . . at the East Hills Recreation 'Skate With the Chiefs' back in about 1998. Poor old man Even though we were all middle-schoolers, he was still hurtin' after that one! . . . Needing to win Game 2 in Trenton to sweep the mini-series, lest we be forced to play Game 3 at Planet Ice. Chiefs were trailing 0-3 at the start of the third, but rallied to tie the game, then scored the game winning goal off a Trenton stick with 4 seconds left! What a rough way to end you season, eh?
